I listened to the free audiobook and absolutely loved listening to Johanna Basford reading the book。 It was a quick listen， under an hour but totally worth the time。

I got this book for my nephews but I'm getting one fur myself。 It's a sweet story with lovely illustrations to be coloured in and descriptions that kids would enjoy。 Adults who like colouring would also enjoy it。 The illustrations are a bit less intricate than in The Secret Garden， which makes sense since I think this one is meant to be accessible to kids so the smallest spaces are bigger so kids wouldn't get frustrated if they don't have such fine motor control。 I got this book for my nephews but I'm getting one fur myself。 It's a sweet story with lovely illustrations to be coloured in and descriptions that kids would enjoy。 Adults who like colouring would also enjoy it。 The illustrations are a bit less intricate than in The Secret Garden， which makes sense since I think this one is meant to be accessible to kids so the smallest spaces are bigger so kids wouldn't get frustrated if they don't have such fine motor control。 。。。more

THis is an interesting twist to Johanna Basford other inky coloring books。 A typical inky coloring book has beautiful pictures with a hidden item in them。 This one combines that style with a story to match the illustrations。 The pictures are as beautiful as always and while the story is a cute concept。 However what I’m looking for a coloring book not a story book。 What still bothers me is that these beautiful illustrations are printed on both sides of the page which really cuts down the chance o THis is an interesting twist to Johanna Basford other inky coloring books。 A typical inky coloring book has beautiful pictures with a hidden item in them。 This one combines that style with a story to match the illustrations。 The pictures are as beautiful as always and while the story is a cute concept。 However what I’m looking for a coloring book not a story book。 What still bothers me is that these beautiful illustrations are printed on both sides of the page which really cuts down the chance of framing one side。 Also the ink from the illustrations and even my coloring easily transfers to the opposite page they are facing so you really have to put a scrape page between each page when coloring or you will definitely get bleed through。All that being said， Johanna Basford stays my favorite illustrator。 。。。more

Got my copy today。 First impression:-The paper is thick with lots of tooth。-The book is rather harder to spread open compared to Johanna Basford’s previous books （I’m scared I’ll damage the spine。）-Some of the illustrations are similar， not exactly the same but very close to Johanna Basford’s other books。-There are lots of new ones too which are incredibly gorgeous。-The story part sometimes doesn’t match the illustration。 I’d like to see exactly what is being described in the story

Wer Malbücher liebt， dem ist Johanna Basford mit sehr hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit schon ein Begriff – immerhin verzaubert ihr detailverliebter und dabei zutiefst origineller Stil schon seit einigen Jahren Menschen auf der ganzen Welt。Mit diesem Buch schlägt sie nun ein neues Kapitel auf: es enthält nicht nur zahlreiche Illustrationen， sondern erzählt auf 120 Seiten auch eine märchenhafte Geschichte， die von Stil und Atmosphäre her gelegentlich an "Alice im Wunderland" erinnert。 Es gibt einige Seite Wer Malbücher liebt， dem ist Johanna Basford mit sehr hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit schon ein Begriff – immerhin verzaubert ihr detailverliebter und dabei zutiefst origineller Stil schon seit einigen Jahren Menschen auf der ganzen Welt。Mit diesem Buch schlägt sie nun ein neues Kapitel auf: es enthält nicht nur zahlreiche Illustrationen， sondern erzählt auf 120 Seiten auch eine märchenhafte Geschichte， die von Stil und Atmosphäre her gelegentlich an "Alice im Wunderland" erinnert。 Es gibt einige Seiten， die nur Illustrationen enthalten， auf vielen ergänzen sich Bilder und Text jedoch zu einem wunderbaren Gesamtkunstwerk。 Ein schöner Nebeneffekt: wenn man gerade viel Zeit und Muße hat， kann man sich stundenlang in eine seitenfüllende Illustration voller liebevoller Details vertiefen， wenn man jedoch etwas Leichtes für zwischendurch braucht， finden sich auch kleine， einfachere Illustrationen auf Seiten mit viel Text。Die Künstlerin zieht hier alle Register。 Unter den Malbuchfans gibt es viele， die persönliche Vorlieben haben， was sie gerne ausmalen: manche bevorzugen Bilder von Tieren und Fabelwesen， andere solche von Pflanzen， wieder andere lieben es besonders， Juwelen， Glas und andere glänzende Materialien zu kolorieren und viele vertiefen sich gerne in Bilder von Alltagsszenen。 Johanna Basford bietet in meinen Augen für fast jeden Geschmack das passende Bild。Auch der Schwierigkeitsgrad variiert， jedoch sind fast alle Bilder sehr detailliert und damit vielleicht für kleinere Kinder oder Erwachsene mit Störungen der Feinmotorik weniger geeignet。Die Seiten sind beidseitig bedruckt， was ich bei Malbüchern normal nicht so gerne sehe， weil dann die Gefahr besteht， dass die Stifte auf die Rückseite und damit das nächste Bild durchdrücken。 Hier stellt es jedoch kein Problem dar， denn die Papierqualität ist phänomenal。 Die letzten Seiten des Buches sind extra zum Austesten der eigenen Stifte gedacht， und ich habe eine dieser Seiten wirklich mit alle traktiert， was mir eingefallen ist。 Buntstifte， Filzstifte， Textmarker， Stempelfarbe， Tinte und sogar Aquarellfarbe。 Nichts davon hat auf die Rückseite durchgedrückt。 Erst， als ich an einer Stelle absichtlich einen Tintenklecks gemacht und den Füller dann noch grob ins Papier gedrückt habe， zeigte sich auf der Rückseite ein winzig kleiner， schwacher Fleck。 。。。more
